As we made our way back down from Carlsbad Caverns, the heat
went from bad to worse. So much so that by the time we reached the outskirts of Carlsbad (the town) we had almost decided to get a hotel room and enjoy some air conditioning.
What finally convinced us was the first sign we saw upon entering town: "Welcome to Carlsbad, Time: 3:32pm, Temp: 105°". Um, no. We were NOT about to drive 200 or so hot miles to White Sands, then set camp in another sizzling spot. So, like the story of the 3 bears, we checked one place but it was too high. The second place did not have pet rooms available. But the third place was juuuussst right.
(FYI, all Motel 6 hotels accept pets. Wish I had known that sooner.)
