In the beginning....

I have never had the urge to write a journal and most definitely never a blog. If I want mom to know what's new, I call her. Brothers or kids? Text or email. Extended family? Facebook and, now, Google+.

Well, the days of carefree communication are gone. No, the intertubes are not clogged. No, I have not lost my cell phone (God forbid!). As it happens, I have finally decided to have a motorcycle adventure. Or, more accurately,
Dennis and I decided. Dennis is my ever-supportive, loving, and nutty husband who loves the open road on 2 wheels just as much as I do. In fact, he is completely to blame for my fascination with motorcycle riding. Yes, honey, it IS your fault! And trying to call, email, and text every person I want to share this with will quickly lead to chaos.

So, why really a blog? Last time we went on an extended camping trip, back in '08, I kept a daily log on my PalmTX. I recently ran across it and realized just how funny, interesting, and memorable the whole experience was and how much I would have liked to be able to share it with my family and friends. I did share some of it, and a few photos, but it's hard to convey a lot of the fun in an hour or two of conversation at the end of a month-long trip. For anyone to experience even a little bit of the trip, however vicariously, I would have to email the whole file and hope the recipient gets a chance and is interested enough to read it. Yes, boring at best.

A blog gives a sense of sharing the experience in real time. It has continuity. It has pictures and reactions. THAT is why I've started this blog. To share my upcoming adventure in real time. So, what has my insane brain conjured up this time? Well, let's just say that my mother would NOT approve (sorry Mom - I'll call and explain later... and it's Dennis' fault, remember that!).

Here's the main players in this adventure:
     One husband, Dennis
     One wife, Irene
     Two motorcycles
Three teenage girls (our youngest kids and their best friend)
     One minivan
     One 70-lb dog
One brand-new Rand McNally road atlas!

If that doesn't pique your interest even a little bit, you are free to ignore any and all subsequent posts. Unless you are one of my brothers. Then you are NOT excused. There'll be a test when I get back!
